When and Where
Lollapalooza 2026 takes over Grant Park in downtown Chicago from July 30 through August 2. The festival stretches across multiple stages between Columbus Drive and Lake Shore Drive, with the Chicago skyline as your backdrop and Lake Michigan a short walk east. Gates typically open at 11 AM and music runs until 10 PM each day.
Grant Park sits right in the heart of the Loop, making it one of the most accessible major festivals in the country. Unlike camping festivals, you will sleep in a real bed every night -- which is both a luxury and a logistical consideration since you need to get to and from the park each day.
Getting There
Flying In
Chicago has two major airports. O'Hare International (ORD) is the larger hub with more flight options and typically lower fares if you book early. Midway (MDW) is closer to downtown and served by Southwest Airlines, which can mean cheaper last-minute tickets and no baggage fees for your gear.
- From O'Hare: Take the CTA Blue Line directly downtown. It costs $5 and takes about 45 minutes to the Loop. Do not take a taxi during rush hour -- it will cost $50+ and take twice as long.
- From Midway: Take the CTA Orange Line to the Loop, about 25 minutes and $2.50 with a Ventra card.
CTA L Train
The L is your best friend during Lolla. Multiple lines stop within a 5-10 minute walk of the festival entrance:
- Red Line -- Harrison or Roosevelt stops
- Blue Line -- Jackson stop
- Green/Orange/Brown -- Roosevelt or Adams/Wabash stops
Buy a Ventra card at any station and load it up. A 3-day pass costs $20 and covers unlimited rides. Pro tip: after the festival, the Roosevelt Red Line station gets brutally crowded. Walk a few blocks south to Cermak-Chinatown or north to Harrison to skip the worst of it.
Rideshare and Parking
Uber and Lyft operate surge pricing after the headliners. Expect $30-60 for a ride that normally costs $12. If you drive, parking garages near Millennium Park run $30-50/day. Street parking is nearly impossible during the festival.
Where to Stay
Book your hotel the moment you buy your ticket. Lolla weekends sell out fast, and prices double as the festival approaches.
South Loop (Best for Walking)
The South Loop puts you within a 10-15 minute walk of the gates. Hotels along Michigan Avenue and Wabash Avenue are ideal. Budget $200-400/night during Lolla weekend. The HI Chicago Hostel on Congress Parkway is the budget-friendly option at around $60/night for a dorm bed.
West Loop
Slightly cheaper and home to Chicago's best restaurant row (Randolph Street). You are a 15-20 minute walk or quick L ride from the park. Great if you want to eat well before and after the festival.
River North
More nightlife options and a solid hotel selection. About a 20-minute walk south to Grant Park. Good if you plan to go out after the headliners.
Budget Options
Airbnb in Pilsen or Bridgeport can cut costs to $80-120/night. Both neighborhoods are on the Orange Line with a straight shot to the Loop.
What to Bring
- Portable phone charger -- fully charged, at least 10,000 mAh. Your phone will die by 4 PM otherwise.
- Comfortable shoes -- you will walk 8-12 miles per day on concrete and grass. Broken-in sneakers, not sandals.
- Sunscreen SPF 50+ -- Grant Park has very little shade. Reapply every 2 hours.
- Light rain jacket -- Chicago summer storms roll in fast. A packable rain shell weighs nothing and saves the day.
- Empty water bottle -- must be empty at entry. Free refill stations are throughout the park.
- Earplugs -- high-fidelity ones like Eargasm or Loop protect your hearing without killing the sound quality.
- Small crossbody bag or fanny pack -- backpacks larger than 14"x11"x5" are not allowed.
What is NOT Allowed
Drones, professional cameras (detachable lens), umbrellas, chairs, coolers, glass containers, pets, selfie sticks, and any bag larger than a standard backpack. Full list on the Lollapalooza website.
Money Tips
Lollapalooza is cashless. You will load a credit or debit card onto your wristband and tap to pay at every vendor. Set this up through the Lolla app before you arrive to avoid long lines at the registration tent.
- Food: Budget $40-60/day. Meals run $12-18 and drinks (non-alcoholic) are $5-7.
- Alcohol: Beers are $12-15, cocktails $15-18. If you want to save, eat and pre-game before entry (no re-entry allowed).
- Merch: Artist merch tents open early and popular sizes sell out by mid-afternoon. Budget $40-80 for a hoodie or tee.
Insider Tips From Experienced Festival-Goers
- Arrive when gates open. Getting to the front of a mainstage is nearly impossible by 3 PM. If you want to be close for a headliner, camp that stage from mid-afternoon.
- Water stations are marked on the app map. Download the Lollapalooza app and study the map before Day 1. Know where water, medical tents, and bathrooms are.
- The south entrance is less crowded than the main entrance on Columbus Drive. Enter from Balbo Avenue for shorter lines.
- Charge your wristband early. Registration tents have the longest lines on Day 1 morning. Do it the night before through the app.
- Schedule conflicts are real. Use CrowdShuffle's schedule builder to plan your day and avoid painful overlaps.
- Perry's Stage (EDM) has the best energy after dark but gets extremely packed. Go early if you want space to dance.
