When and Where
Bonnaroo 2026 takes place on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, about 60 miles southeast of Nashville. Known simply as "The Farm," the site transforms into a small city of 80,000+ people for four days in June. Unlike Lollapalooza or Coachella, Bonnaroo is a fully immersive camping festival -- once you are in, you are in. There is no going back to a hotel at midnight. And that is exactly what makes it special.
Music runs virtually around the clock. Main stages operate from early afternoon through midnight, but the late-night sets -- Bonnaroo's signature -- keep going until sunrise in smaller tents. Some of the best moments at Bonnaroo happen at 3 AM.
Getting There
Flying In
Nashville International (BNA) is the closest major airport, about 70 miles northwest. From there you have a few options:
- Rental car: The most flexible option. The drive to Manchester takes about 75 minutes without traffic (expect 2-3 hours on Thursday as everyone arrives). You will need the car for your camping gear anyway.
- Official Bonnaroo shuttle: Runs from downtown Nashville to The Farm for around $70 round trip. Convenient but limits what gear you can bring.
- Ride share with other attendees: Check the Bonnaroo subreddit (r/bonnaroo) and the Radiate app -- ride-sharing is a huge part of the community.
Driving
If you are within driving distance, this is the way to go. Take I-24 to Manchester. Bonnaroo provides detailed arrival instructions with multiple toll booth lanes. Arrive Thursday morning for the best campsite selection. Wednesday night arrivals are possible but the party starts Thursday.
Be prepared to wait. Entry lines can take 1-3 hours during peak arrival times. Have snacks, water, and a full tank of gas before you join the queue. Your car will be searched for prohibited items.
Camping Essentials
This is not optional -- everyone at Bonnaroo camps (unless you buy a hotel package or glamping). Your campsite is your home for four days, so invest in making it comfortable.
Must-Have Gear
- Tent: A 4-person tent for 2 people gives you room for gear. Make sure it has a rain fly. Bring extra stakes for Tennessee clay.
- Canopy/shade structure (10x10 EZ-Up): Your tent will be an oven by 8 AM without shade. This is the single most important comfort item.
- Sleeping pad or air mattress: The ground is hard and uneven. A sleeping bag alone will not cut it.
- Battery-powered fan: June in Tennessee is hot and humid. A fan pointed at your face is the difference between sleeping and not sleeping.
- Cooler with ice: Bring a quality cooler (RTIC, Coleman, Yeti) and buy ice at the general store inside. Keep food and drinks cold.
- Camp chairs: You need somewhere to sit between sets. Cheap folding chairs from Walmart work fine.
- Headlamp or lantern: Your campsite is pitch black at night. A red-mode headlamp keeps your night vision intact.
- Trash bags: Leave no trace. Bonnaroo takes this seriously and so should you.
Understanding the Layout: Centeroo and the Pods
Centeroo is the main festival grounds where all the stages, food vendors, and art installations live. You walk in from your campsite through the famous Bonnaroo arch. It is a 10-30 minute walk depending on where you camped, so plan accordingly.
Campsites are organized into numbered pods (Pod 1 through Pod 10+). Lower-numbered pods are closer to Centeroo but also louder and more crowded. Higher pods are quieter for sleeping but mean a longer walk.
The Which Stage, What Stage, This Tent, That Tent, and The Other Tent are the main performance areas. Yes, those are their real names. Learn the map before you arrive.
Weather: Heat, Humidity, and Thunderstorms
June in middle Tennessee means highs in the 90s, humidity above 70%, and daily thunderstorm risk. This combination is more physically demanding than desert heat because sweat does not evaporate. Prepare for all of it:
- Heat: Drink water constantly. Bonnaroo has free water fill-up stations everywhere. Bring electrolyte packets (Liquid IV, LMNT) -- you lose salt fast in humidity.
- Rain: It will rain. It is not a question of if but when. Bring a rain poncho (not an umbrella -- those are banned) and waterproof bags for your phone and wallet. Rain boots or shoes you do not mind getting muddy are essential.
- Mud: After rain, The Farm turns into a mud pit. This is part of the Bonnaroo experience. Embrace it. Waterproof boots or old sneakers you can throw away afterward work best.
- Nights: Temperatures drop to the mid-60s, which feels cold after sweating all day. Bring a hoodie or light jacket for late-night sets.
What to Bring (Beyond Camping Gear)
- Portable charger -- 20,000+ mAh. There are charging stations but lines are long.
- Baby wipes / body wipes -- Showers exist but have long lines. Wipes between showers keep you functional.
- Sunscreen + bug spray -- Tennessee mosquitoes are aggressive at dusk.
- Earplugs for sleeping -- Your neighbors will be partying when you want to sleep.
- First aid kit -- Band-aids, ibuprofen, Pepto-Bismol, allergy meds.
- Comfortable shoes -- You will walk 10+ miles per day on uneven terrain. Break them in first.
Money and Food
Bonnaroo uses a cashless wristband system. Register your card before arrival. Food in Centeroo runs $12-18 per meal with a wide variety -- southern BBQ, tacos, vegan bowls, pizza, and more. The general store in the campground sells ice, firewood, snacks, and basic supplies at festival-premium prices. Bring your own breakfast foods and snacks to save money.
Insider Tips
- Late-night sets are the soul of Bonnaroo. Do not burn out by 10 PM. Pace yourself, nap during the afternoon heat, and save energy for the 1 AM - 4 AM shows.
- The comedy tent is underrated. Some of the biggest comedians in the country do surprise sets. Check the schedule daily.
- Make friends with your campsite neighbors. You are living next to these people for four days. Share food, share shade, share good vibes. This is the Bonnaroo way.
- Bring a wagon or cart to haul gear from your car to your campsite. The walk can be long and your arms will thank you.
- Plan your must-see acts in advance with CrowdShuffle's schedule builder. With 150+ artists across four days, you need a plan.
